2026 · Site-specific light installation · An Trá, Inis Oírr
One 80-watt laser held a solid line of light across the tideline at An Trá, on Inis Oírr. The Atlantic broke into it all night. Spray, surf and foam lit up where they crossed the line and showed their shape. The line is the foil; the ocean is the subject.
The line was moved by hand through the night as the tide came in and went out, so the waves kept meeting it.
The piece draws on the old story of the ninth wave, the threshold between Ireland and the Otherworld. It was not designed in advance. Kev has come to Inis Oírr for Drop Everything since 2014, and invited Bertie Sampson over with no fixed brief. The ocean made the piece. Islanders called it an Solas Mór, the Big Light, and connected it to the bioluminescence the island sees each season.
